Secure the Contents

Though we make great efforts to protect your belongings, accidents happen. Many accidents can be avoided by packing your belongings as safely as possible. The most common mistake made in packing, is failing to protect the contents of the packing container properly. When this happens, shocks received on the outside of the bin can pass through to the contents, causing damage. You should consider the following suggestions when packing your bins:

- Use the original boxes, spacers and protection (Styrofoam, bubble wrap) to pack computers and other electronics. They are the correct size and the original packing materials; if kept they will help protect your items.

- Use bubble wrap, towels, blankets, newspaper, or clothes to wrap fragile items such as picture frames, mugs, etc.

- Make certain that items in the bins are secure enough so that they cannot move around inside. Use clothing, towels, blankets, or crumpled newspaper to fill open spaces.

What You Shouldn’t Pack

There are some items you should not (and in fact cannot) store with Storage Bucket because we do not insure them against loss or damage:

-         Jewelry, coins, cash, and collectables.

-         Items of intangible value.

-         Extremely fragile items (e.g. mirrors).

-         Improperly packed items, including furniture that is not adequately wrapped.

Distribute the Weight

To avoid surpassing weight limits, we suggest that you separate your heavy items into multiple boxes. This will prevent you from being charged weight fees if you did not sign up for bins over 85 lbs.

Consider the following:

-         Do not put all of your books in the same box.

-         Mix books with lighter items such as sweaters and bedding. This is also a good way to keep your           books in good condition.

-         It is also a good idea to place the heavier objects at the bottom and as close to the center of the bin as possible to minimize the risk of breaking the bin.

-         Bins weighing in excess of 85 pounds cost extra. Thoughtful packing will reduce the risk of damage and save you money.

Secure and Seal Your Items

Bins:

When receiving your bin, you will also receive plastic, tamper-proof security seals with unique serial numbers on them. We recommend using these to secure your bin. However, you may use your own locks or other security forms.

Carpets & Rugs:

Make sure your carpets and rugs are rolled tightly, secured with tape along three points, and covered in plastic if you want to keep them free from dust.

Refrigerators:

Make sure your fridge is completely defrosted and dry at the time of pickup. Secure loose items inside of the fridge. Tape the door shut. Bundle and tape the power cord to the back of the fridge, behind the cooling coils so it is not "dangling" on the ground.

Trunks and Luggage:

Make sure that these items are locked or securely taped to prevent the contents from spilling during handling.

Label Check

Ensure that all of your items are labeled with the correct information. These are the labels that were provided to you through your account page on our website. When placing zip ties on your belongings fasten them as tightly as possible and check that they are secure. In particular, pay close attention to the zip ties affixed to any plugs.

Storage Bucket – Labeling Instructions

Labeling Buckets

Every bucket comes with two plastic label sleeves affixed to opposite sides of each other. After registering with Storage Bucket, you can print your automatically generated labels through your online account. For each bucket, you will place a label in each sleeve. That is, two labels per bucket. Please note that each label will print on a full page of paper but must be folded in half to fit in the plastic sleeve.

Printing Your Labels:

    1) Go to www.sbucket.com

    2) Sign-in

    3) Go to "My Account"

    4) On the right side of the page you will see a button that says "Print My Labels"

    5) There, you will be able to print all of your labels with a single click

Labeling All Other Items

If you have signed up to store items other than bins, this packet also includes some plastic label holders and zip ties. You will use these to affix your printed labels to the non-bin items you are storing.

1)      Follow the "Printing Your Labels" instructions above.

2)      You will find a label for each of the items you have registered to store. Print these labels and either cut or fold them along the lines, and place them in the plastic label holders.

3)      Using the zip ties provided, securely fasten the plastic sleeves (with the labels inside), to each item. We recommend affixing these labels to plugs, when applicable. Ensure that the label information corresponds to the actual item being labeled.

Note: Your bins will come with a plastic sleeve already securely attached. Simply print the correct label and place it in this sleeve.
